As a sweater knitter/designer, I'm used to have long-term projects on the needles. However, since I've been knitting for fun, I've been drawn to smaller, shorter projects that feel very satisfying to complete over the course of a week or so. My current WIP is @sari_n_ 2x2 Hat in @moel.view.yarn Falkland Merino Fingering. It is so soft and springy! A great combo of yarn and pattern. My next one will be a longer one accessory - a luxurious, drapey wrap. What kinds of projects do you prefer to work on? Did you know that you can use a lemon in place of a darning mushroom? I read about it somewhere a long time ago and have done it ever since! It smells lovely too. My #brontesocks have been thinning at the heels, so I spent my lunch break duplicate stitching over the thin area. I still have a way to go on the first heel, but it's a lot of fun! As part of my self-care break, I've been spending more time making lovely things for me, just for fun ✨ I'm currently using @thefibrecompany Cumbria Fingering in Eden Valley to knit @the_other_emily Anticline Mitts. They are SO cosy and the yarn highlights the stitchwork beautifully. Emily is SO good at using simple lines to create something really refined and special. I'd like to have them finished by the weekend, when I'll be making a trip to Cumbria to see the rest of the TFC team. I can't wait! Also, these mitts are part of my plan to use more colour in my handmade wardrobe. Teal is a colour that suits me and is easy to wear with other colours too. Accessories make it easy to wear colour! I haven't really known how to be in this online space for a little while, so I thought I'd try to come back with a little introduction - featuring an outtake that I preferred to the self-portrait I was trying to take! My name is Clare and I am a knitwear designer based in London, England. I also work part-time as the marketing manager for @thefibrecompany, which I adore 💛 it is SO wonderful to work for a company you have so much respect for. Here are 5 random facts about me: 1. I am getting a little bored of wearing neutrals all the time (particularly black) so I'm trying to introduce more colour 🌈 into my wardrobe this autumn, inspired by @superlativelylj 2. I'm taking a bit of a break from design work at the moment after an intense period of burnout - looking forward to coming back with fresh energy later 3. After several years of trying to grow herbs 🌱 and houseplants, I'm finally keeping them alive 4. I've just started taking ballet class again after a 13 year break and it makes me so happy that I could cry 5. I'm marrying my favourite person in the world next year (@ulysses_sean 👋) and whilst wedding planning is not my favourite activity (am I a rubbish bride? 😂) I can't wait for us to be a little family After taking quite a break from Instagram recently, I'm feeling a little disconnected from you guys! I've been spread farrrrr too thin for months, so recently, I've been doing what I can to feel better again. That meant drastically reducing my workload and taking time to knit for pleasure. POUL is the second sweater that I designed for @woolfolk_yarn, using their TOV DK yarn. Swipe to see the details 🤩 It was my first unisex design, which was so much fun! My own personal style can err on the slightly masculine side (I don't like to wear anything too fussy) so it felt like a good match for my design sensibility. POUL has the best stitch pattern - super simple but graphic and interesting. I love the proportions of the two versions as well - check out the variations in rib length! Also, can we discuss these amazing photos from Woolfolk?! 😭 It gives me all the feels to see my sweaters together like that. I've managed to convince Ulysses that we need matching sweaters, so that's going to happen at some point!
